Our need for acceptance

July 29, 2020July 29, 2020 DevanyFaith, Inspiration, Life, Motherhood

In these uncertain times, a peculiar thing has begun to happen to me. It’s not a new sensation, but something that seems to rise up in me when things don’t feel stabile. I’ve definitely encountered it in other uncertain times […]

Daughter, I want to be more like you

July 7, 2020July 7, 2020 DevanyFaith, Inspiration, Life, Motherhood

When you come downstairs, dressed for the day, all I can do is smile and think, “I want to be more like you.”  Plaid tights, sparkly tutu, flower shirt and wild, crazy hair. You are beautiful, untamed, open-hearted and totally […]

To All My Fellow Moms: Slow is Fast

February 3, 2020February 4, 2020 DevanyFaith, Inspiration, Motherhood

I can’t get this phrase out of my head. A few weeks ago our pastor shared a tiny phrase that carried some big truth. He said, Slow is fast. If that doesn’t describe motherhood, I don’t know what does.  He […]

Are you a human doer?

October 15, 2019October 15, 2019 DevanyFaith, Inspiration, Motherhood, Rest

By now you have likely heard me refer to myself as a “recovering striver.” Recently I heard a woman say that her friends lovingly call her a “human doer” instead of a “human being” and internally I began to jump […]

If you are like me, it’s hardest to be kind towa If you are like me, it’s hardest to be kind towards my own mistakes.

...and that's thanks to perfectionism.

Perfectionism says, "if I'm perfect I'll avoid all feelings of pain, shame and judgment."

But the truth is... pain, shame and mistakes are all part of the human condition, so what do we do?

What if we lay down the lie that we can be perfect, and pick up the truth that the One who is perfect offers His yoke to support & guide us.

If Jesus can look at our imperfections with compassion, then so can we.

Cultivating Authenticity means we practice showing up as our true selves. It's a choice, not a personality trait!

This is hard & vulnerable and that’s why I think we'd rather hustle for our worthiness out in the world..through proving and performing...instead of walking in our true identity.

When we remember our worth is our belovedness...we can rest in our true identity in God and be authentic! Now that brings forth an exhale💚

Last year was far from perfect... And if you’re Last year was far from perfect...

And if you’re like me, I know I didn’t handle things perfectly & I was uncomfortable having my imperfections exposed. But I heard a pastor say that the pandemic exposed what was already there. And I think he was right.

My imperfections were always there, but the high pressure caused them to surface more obviously and more frequently. So what do we do with that?

What if we practice embracing ALL of our story & allow God to transform us through the process?

Join me in an 8 week yoga series based on Brene Brown’s book “The Gifts of Imperfection.”

You don’t have to attend every class to participate!

Come as you are and when you can…. grace abounds here.

I know many of us would rather skip all forms of r I know many of us would rather skip all forms of reflection because 2020 was such a dumpster fire. It hurt. It took. It challenged. It overwhelmed.

But I think our reflection can hold space for our grief and our pain as well as our thanksgiving and our hope.

In my experience, I’ve found it’s when I look back that I can see God most clearly. It’s in hindsight that I can trace His movement and see all the ways He held me close, even when I feared He was far.

Don’t we all have 20/20 vision in the rear view mirror!?

Let’s look back together.

What have you learned?
What have you released?
What do you desire?

As I’ve looked back on 2020, I found the gift of less.

I’ll be honest, at first it felt more like an uninvited heartache that I couldn’t control as I watched the world encounter less certainty, less unity and less security. In my own life it meant less people, less activity and less connection. All of it broke my heart, But with the less - there also came more. More of what was right before me. Christmas is upon us! 🎄 This is the week of Adv Christmas is upon us! 🎄 This is the week of Advent where we light our candle for love. ❤️

What does love look like for you this year?

In year’s past, I’ve clung to the sentiment of love. I think it’s easy to ride the emotion of love when I’m surrounded by loved ones and can feel the energy buzzing around the room.

But this year, as we are more disconnected or facing a much different Christmas, what does love look like now?

~ What if love is less of a performance and more of a posture.
A posture of open-heartedness, where we believe we are held in love and trustingly allow Christ’s love to flow in us and through us.

~ What if love is less of a sentiment and more of a force? One that connects us and draws us together, no matter how many attempts there are to put it out.

~ What if love is more choice than chance? Can we choose to allow God’s love take on whatever shape, form, act, person or circumstance that He has planned.

♥️ One thing is for certain, and that is that we are loved outrageously by God. This is both our identity and our reality and may it be what shines brightly this Christmas, and is realized in the birth of Christ 🌟

Join us for our final advent class tomorrow on love! May we practice the posture of love this week of Christmas! (Link in bio to sign up!)
In the third week of Advent, we light our joy cand In the third week of Advent, we light our joy candle.

This season, I pray you can be clear-eyed about all of your realities and see that Jesus enters into ALL of them with you. Your outside life doesn’t have to be put-together, successful or “going well” to prove that Jesus is near.

Jesus came once and continues to come into every moment of your life. Even when you feel that you are at the end, Jesus promises a grand finale. This is our joy 💚

“Joy to the world, the Lord has come.
Let earth receive her King.”

May you receive the King of Glory in the earthly moments of your life today. Just as Mary and Joseph did, thousands of years ago.

Join us for a time of receiving Christ’s presence in ZOOM Soul Yoga class Tuesday morning 6a-630a! (Link to sign up in bio) I can’t wait to see you!

For me, joy has looked like walks with my daughter, elf on the shelf and her outfit choices. Big joy comes in small ways these days :) How about you!?

In a time when we've lost what was, and feelings o In a time when we've lost what was, and feelings of scarcity begin to sneak in, I was reminded that "enough" is the antidote to scarcity.

This Thanksgiving week, I found small moments of "enough" in turkey legs, a lit candle, a good book by the fire, snuggles, and a crisp blue sky.

As you face hardship, loss and uncertainty - I pray you remember that our God is faithful and His heart is with you!

Join me for Zoom Soul Yoga tomorrow at 6am - and let's look forward to tomorrow, with God, in hope! {Click to sign up in bio!}
