How are you?

February 14, 2021February 15, 2021 DevanyFaith, Inspiration, Motherhood

I’m always quick to answer this question from autopilot saying, “Good, you?” before I even pause to process and consider it. And on days when I’m really out of touch with myself, I undoubtedly answer, “I’m busy, but good!”   Somewhere […]

To All My Fellow Moms: Slow is Fast

February 3, 2020February 4, 2020 DevanyFaith, Inspiration, Motherhood

I can’t get this phrase out of my head. A few weeks ago our pastor shared a tiny phrase that carried some big truth. He said, Slow is fast. If that doesn’t describe motherhood, I don’t know what does.  He […]

We just finished a 10-week yoga series, & to celeb We just finished a 10-week yoga series, & to celebrate classes are FREE THIS WEEK! 🎉

I want to thank YOU - the community that has journeyed & yoga’d with me over the last year.  It’s surreal to think that this time a year ago, I taught my FIRST zoom class. 👩‍💻 It was Good Friday, and I assumed virtual yoga would be a short-term solution and we’d all be back together in weeks.

But like many of my assumptions last year, I was wrong. Zooming is now a verb- a way of work and life - and apparently now yoga too! Ha! 🧘‍♀️

But in all seriousness, I learned that shared virtual space is still shared space. In a year that was overshadowed by disconnection ~ our yoga time became a time of connection & peace. It was a gift to connect to this community, myself & God on our mats. His Spirit was ever-present and I’m ever-grateful. 🙏💚

Will you join me? (LINK IN BIO)

We completed Guidepost #10 - and it felt like the We completed Guidepost #10 - and it felt like the perfect finale to our series...and our family!

By surprise ~ we ended up getting a puppy while in CA for Spring break! 🐶 Our sweet Bodega is a Moyen Poodle…and I tell you what, she’s had us laughing & dancing and we even made up a song in her honor!

Bodega has reconnected us to our child-like joy! I think as kids it’s natural to sing, dance and laugh…and we flourish in the self-expression without giving a second thought to anything but our own hearts.

🙈 But somewhere along the way we allow self expression to take a backseat to self-protection after we’ve been laughed at or embarrassed….and realize managing self-perception is necessary for survival. (Or so it seems).

But full self expression and vulnerability bring healing and connections- and Brene Brown found when we “don’t give ourselves permission to be free, we rarely tolerate freedom in others.” 🌟

We are all in this together. 💜

Join me in freeing your heart a little and lean into your childlike vulnerability🐶
- Try dancing in the car, laughing out loud or singing in the shower?
- May your heart open and remember that God “rejoices over you with gladness” as an adoring parent over a child.

What’s the work that makes you come alive? That What’s the work that makes you come alive? That brings your days meaning?

I’m excited to catch up with the last two Guideposts of our yoga series! #9 was a goody! (#10 coming tomorrow!)

I love how Scripture reminds us that our meaningful work originates in God ~ and in doing it, we show who He is; both to ourselves and the world.

It’s no wonder Brené Brown found that “sharing our gifts and talents with the world is the most powerful source of connection with God.”

❓ But if our work can connect us to God, why do we hesitate?

What is holding you back from finding and using your gifts this week? Is it self-doubt? Is it the “supposed tos”? …You’re supposed to prove, to please or be perfect? Is fear undermining your faith?

Maybe take a few breaths and notice what’s causing you to hesitate…exhale and let it go.

Breathe in the love of God. Let it affirm and strengthen you. Remember, God’s Spirit is behind your gifts. May using them bring you alive to God and benefit HIs world 🌎 💚

What if in trying to outrun what we don't want to What if in trying to outrun what we don't want to face, we miss the chance to heal and rest?

God offers us stillness as space of healing and rest in Him. A chance for us to perceive His Presence and receive His Perspective.

I've struggled with stillness because I'm a mover and doer- and it has a negative connotation in our world. However what feels counterintuitive has been life-changing, in the best way.

Come read along for some ideas and try it with me! Your mat or a meditation is a great place to start. (Link in bio!)🧘‍♀️🤍
“Anxiety is extremely contagious…but so is cal “Anxiety is extremely contagious…but so is calm.” (Harriet Lerner)

How about practicing some calm with me, and see it’s saving grace. 🤍

Set a timer for 2 minutes, find a comfortable seat, close your eyes and try repeating this prayer as you breathe.

With each exhale, feel your body relax into the truth that you are held by a God who loves you fiercely.

Try letting go of worry and anxiety and trust the flow of God’s grace to fill your lungs & carry you forward.

I practice this breath prayer almost daily whenever I feel anxiety tightening my chest. Waiting for God instead of depending on me - saves me every time. Maybe it will for you too☺️

Let’s cultivate some calm together for Guidepost #8 in our yoga series on ZOOM - Join us TUESDAY 3/9 ~ 6a-635a (link in bio!)
I’m sorry I have to cancel this week! 😢 But I I’m sorry I have to cancel this week! 😢 But I pray it gives you the chance for a little extra sleep 😴 💕 And maybe you can be intentional about some play time!

I loved how last week’s guidepost encouraged us to think of what conditions are in place when life is good. Brené Brown calls this her “joy and meaning list.” She wrote one with her family because it helps her LIVE the dream instead of GET LOST in chasing it.

What’s on your list!? Mine includes down-time, creative time, outside time, naps, singing to music in the car, dance parties in the kitchen, drawing with the kiddos, telling funny stories, dinners around the table, walks, laughing and time to be with people I love. Oh and of course good coffee and yoga!

PLAY, it will help!! (+ NO YOGA next week) The fa PLAY, it will help!! (+ NO YOGA next week)

The fam and I have experienced some pandemic-fatigue in our house, so this week's class could not have been more timely!

I was reminded that PLAY is a remedy to worn out hearts. As parents, we know play is good for our kids so we can trust God, when He says it's good for us too!

We tried it! We played on our mats yesterday & it felt like a little joy-boost to my heart.

Read along for some other ideas or get a video of class! Blessings (LINK IN BIO!)
Do you need to create? Believe it or not, the ans Do you need to create?

Believe it or not, the answer is yes.

When we stop creating, something within us is "neglected to death."

It makes sense because we've been made in the image of The Creator. The One who after creating life as we know it paused to say: Behold it is good."

Come read along, and learn with me from Brene Brown's research as to why it's good to create! And discover what may be stopping you!

Also enjoy a yoga class designed to cultivate creativity on and off your mat:)

Want to join for a live class? Catch us next Tuesday 2/23 on Zoom at 6a (link in bio)
When faced with uncertainty and imperfections, we When faced with uncertainty and imperfections, we are quick to wall up instead of lean in.

Last Tue. in yoga class, we looked at how intuition and faith help us thrive, regardless of our circumstances. ☺️

Intuition is our inner wisdom and faith is our ability to let go of fear, and trust in what we cannot see. We don't have to let our craving for certainty silence our intuition or make us question our faith!
